DFI nF4 ultra-d questions...

Thread Starter
Last week I got the DFI nF4 ultra-d.....

I put the 200gig hard drive, ati x700 pro vid card, and the amd 3500 64 venice off my emachines computer on it....

I was going to try to use all four ram cards I had on the emachines.... two were the OEM samsung duel channel pc3200 512mb cards..... the other two are the ultra 512 duel channe cards I bought off tigerdirect.com....

With the samsung ram in, the computer wouldn't boot up.....

Since then i've formatted my hard drive... put the two ultra ram sticks in... and have been trying to figure out if there is some way to set up the motherboard to accept my samsung also... no luck so far...

Also, i've been wondering about updating my bios, from what i've read in the dfi-street forums, the dfi motherboards don't come with the best bios setups when you buy them?

Does anyone know which bios version I should upgrade to? I know certain versions are better for different processors and ram configurations....

Last of all, I'm debating selling the ATI video card and getting a nvidia card..... I've heard that it isn't too complicated to sli cards on this board??

Any info appreciated!

ONE MORE THING!!!!!!!!! My center channel in audio doesn't work?? I read on a forum to go to run, type regedit, to get into registry editor, then to search for createcenter and change the value from 0 to 1....
I did all of that and still no center channel?

When running the nvidia audio setup speaker test the center channel make a high pitch noise, different from the others....

any ideas on this? would the bios upgrade fix this?

You can't run SLi on that board unless you have the SLi version.

On the audio, did you make sure that in your sound properties, you have 5.1 setup? And stuff won't use all the channels unless it's meant to or you have a up-mixer. And you're using onboard or sound card?

Now if you have that DFI mobo and not the SLi version, here is the newest bios update for that mobo. Make sure you reply with your whole name of your mobo though just to confirm the exact one you have. If you have the DFI Lanparty UT nf4 Ultra-D, here is the newest bios.

I thought I remember hearing about a ram fix in one of the bios updates.

For one, the onboard audio is no good, invest in an x-fi, two, that samsung ram wont work because it was probably made especially for your emachines.

Its best to have the ram in dual channel on both orange slots.

Yeah you can't run SLI on that board unless you got one from the very first batch of them back in April or June. Those could be modded to an SLI-DR, but even then you'd still need the SLI bridge.

yeah, the samsung ram was running in my emachines, right beside the ultra ram.... so you think it's just not compatable with the new motherboard?

From what i've read I dont' think my ultra ram is the best for overclocking *sigh*...... I didn't know about this site before I ordered it, or I would have got corsair probably...

I have improved my OC in the last few days though... i'm around 2.6ghz now.... just getting ready to raise it a little more....

This motherboard is a little hard to get to know at first, but once you are familiar with the terms, oc'ing is a breeze....

I'll list all of my settings, maybe someone will read this and give me more hints to reacing a higher OC?

My max HTT test showed me max fsb of 360.... that was with multi of 7 memory was at 1:2 and LDT/FSB was 1x

Max Memory speed,
Memory was set to 1:1.. dram to 2.9V cpu multiplier to 7 and i was able to acheive 310fsb....

My final setup after some help from a friend I met on this forum was the following.....

CPU Vid was 1.40 +113%

Memory 1:1

Dram 2.9V

Chipset 1.6V

LDT 1.4V

Start up 1.4V

Multi 11x

and fsb went to 240 (around 2.64ghz)

ram settings are 2.5-4-4-8... (they claim my ram can handle 2.0-3-3-7, but I wasn't getting good OC results when running it at those speeds...)

I had it up to somewhere around 250, with the cpu VID to 1.350 + 126%, but my temps were reaching about 52-53C max..... average temp at those voltages was 48-49... *when running prime95*.... So, we decided to lower these voltage settings a bit and lower my FSB until I get a more powerful cooling system (which was something else I had ordered before i was familiar with this forum..... thanks to OC.NET i've learned A LOT!)

Any other setting changes I should consider to optimize my overclock?

(i also did just flash my bios to the 6/23/05 version... someone sent the link to me, thanks for the link!!! anyone know if this is the correct version I should be using?)

ONCE AGAIN, THANKS TO EVERYONE FOR ALL THEIR HELP!!!
from what i'm learning about this motherboard, and all the problems i've worked through, I will be sure to browse the forums and help anyone that is experiencing the same as me.
