AMD Multi Core - Discussion Only - Page 2

ok well ive ran prime on both cores for quiet a while but i only have the screany for the large ffts for an hour+ maybe ill get a longer run tonight (to busy playin games) but anyways both of them run fine

ok so i figure that i shopuld be able to run dual pi's right but nope it crashes the run of pi that is started second and it doesnt matter which core it is that starts second its allways the second one that crashes, i tried running different size pi's and even waited a few seconds before starting the second run but it allways crashes

ill try some more stuff when i get my new rig up and running

also another question- asus probe which seems to give me very accurate temps gave me a full load of 45c and it was rock solid 44-45c the entire test but there were 2 instances in the run where i got a reading of 48c, just long enough for the temp to show up on the recording portion of asus probe- unsure of why i got those spikes in temp which brings me to another question

how does the dual core temp monitor work- is it sencing both cores or just one or the area around both of them (i apologize ive never looked into how the temp is actually monitored)

yeah it is, thats 2 cpus at 2.2ghz, of course itll prob only use one of them but you can run those games on a stock opti 148 which is 2.2ghz or even a newcastle 3500+ which is 2.2ghz with only 512mb cache and the older 130nm process

plus with the dual core you could do other stuff in the background if you want like say folding

btw guys i have been running multi programs alot like playing games and running something else in the background and now it seems to sit at 2.7 alot more stable than it did

Yes. I just got FEAR for x-mas and I run FEAR on max settings at 1600x1200 and it's smooth.

Also, I imagine you probably meant folding in the background when doing small tasks. Any time of game will keep minimizing on me until I close f@h.

My X2 can't run dual super pi 1M at stock speeds. It will come up with a not convergent in square error. I Maybe I got a bad chip?

if you set the affinity of folding to one core and the game to the other it does just fine, i run folding while doing games like cod2 and a couple others and it works just fine 9 i guess it depends on the game also set the cpu priiority to lowest and it will still run just wont use as much resources

this seems to be a issue with these guys, i dont think anyone has been able to run dual 32m or 1m for that matter, i cna get both cores stable prime for 7hrs+ runnning dual prime but i cant get dual pi to work (single pi all day long), im not sure what the issue is with this

It would be nice to have a list of best to worst steppings for AMD dual-cores like in the single-core thread.

I have done dual pi's 1m @ 2.6 and higher, and have pulled a few dual 32m runs
attached is screenie of dual 2.61 with cpu/z (my everyday oc setting)

as for steppings... CCBWE 0530 XPMW

According to [H]ardOCP, the best date codes for dual core Opterons are 0530 and 0543. An Opty 170 with those date codes can hit 2.65GHz to 2.8GHz. Good news is that the 0543s seem really common.
