Just setup my system as per the original op (well - the second post)
started all fine - but then needed to shutdown system and reopen it
reopend vmware and started it folding
my ram shot up to 99% (4gb total - i7 1156 system) and my system CRAWLED
so i killed it again and set the vm to 3gb of ram - and then it killed off 3 processes - aka 3 cores i assume.
How can i get this folding productively on ~3gb of ram
is there a way i could put in a 4gb flash drive, enable readyboots nad make the vm use it - keeping my ram free for my other programs
I have not tried using readyboost for extra memory before but it may be worth a try. I am not sure if the performance with readyboost would be optimal or not.
The new Core A3 project 2684 bigadv work units seem to use much less memory. I saw around 1.5-2.0 GB of memory use with 8-core folding. However, at the moment there is a mix of Core A2 and A3 bigadv work being handed out.
