[VMWare 3.0] (8 Core Folding w/ -bigadv) -UPDATED v1.3 - Page 35

Okay guys. I gotta hit you up for your expertise with the VMWare Player.

I went to put the install that's in your sig (about the 25k ppd folding) on my 9850 machine.

After I installed VMWare Player, it said to restart my machine, so I did. When it came back up, I had no network access. My wireless was working previously, so I figured it just hosed the connection or redirected my network to something. So, I uninstalled the VMWare Player and rebooted. I still have no network access. I tried turning off the wireless manager that came with the motherboard, I tried setting it to Windows Zero Config and setup a Windows connection to the wireless. My network sees my wireless router. But when I start Firefox or IE, it gets page can not be displayed and won't load any website.

Does anyone have pointers on what might have happened?

I would appreciate it. I don't want to have to reload Windows XP x64, download 2 hours of SPs and all, etc.

Thanks.

jck

Hey I've encounted an error where the wu wont send through and wont receive a new wu, Its attempted this maybe 50 times now?

should be attached below, saying it cant connect to the assignment server despite my gpu receiving new wu's? It's not a -bigadv wu, but normal smp using this tutorial? anything i can try to remedy the situation.

The good news is that after 2+ days I finally finished my first 25K pt WU. The bad news is that I could not submit the results. I got an error saying "Server reports digital signature does not match.(May be due to corruption during network transmission or a corrupted file.)
I have started another 25k pt WU and hopefully I have better luck with this one.

Seems to have fixed itself.

I got my problem figured out. I removed all the network connections, rebooted, then reinstalled the drivers for the wireless. Rebooted, shut down the wireless management app, configured the Windows connection, then reinstalled VMWare Player and rebooted. Seemed to work fine after that and I'm folding on 3 cores on the box.

Now, to get GPU2 running with that 9800GTX.

I will also post this question to the similar EVGA thread ( I've read all thru 35 pages on here and did not see it being mentioned):

I have 2 i7's folding -bigadv's, 1 is at 3.3 ATM while the other is at 3.5 (all are C0 stepping). They both are stuck at 0% for 8 hours now Both rigs have GPU's co-existing and folding. Any ideas as to what I am doing wrong? Thanks

I've encountered another problem, I'd left my computer on folding overnight, I wanted to check the process so i went to hit ctrl alt, instead accidently hitting ctrl z which has caused all my progress to be lost, and stoped vm from picking up new wu's.

The main error message i can see is [system msg for write_line failure : Broken pipe]

maybe you can see something else though?

theres a attached screenshot below that does'nt hold that message but it's running through that a few times now, picking up a wu then dumping it. any suggestions? - also lol at the last two lines.

<ctrl>+z will send the current process to the background.

How to get it back with out losing the work done so far, I am not so sure. If you only have a few % complete, you may want to look through this and find something that may work.

You may want to try the command "fg" to bring the job to the foreground.

Thanks for that website, does'nt appear to be anything to get it back i'm affraid, ah well. I think I'll have to reset it to get it working, I'll try once I've finished stabalising my overclock. worse comes to worse I'll start a new virtual machine or reinstall.

That website has tonnes of handy hints for those of us less exerianced with linux, so once again thanks for that link.

The error in that screenshot says: Out of memory. Try restarting the VM.
