Computer Specifications
OS: windows 7 32bit
CPU: amd phenom 9600
Memory: 2gb ddr2
HardDrive: wd 1 tb
Video Card: evga geforce gts 250
Sound Card: creative soundblaster x-fi
Monitor: gateway hd1900

I spoke to someone with an amd phenom 9550 and a gts 250 and he says he gets near 200 fps in a game called Counter-Strike:Source. I, however, get 40-60 fps with a better cpu. I have all the updated drivers for my vid card, cpu, and sound card. Any idea what could be causing me so much fps lag? Thanks in advance

well it depends on the resolution you are using. Also what you are running in the backround, phenom i's are very slow and anay CPU you can have is useful. Next you need to find out the clock speed of his CPU, he may have it overclocked.

welcome to OCN btw

He was running 1024x768 ingame, same as mine. native resolution of my monitor is 1440x900. I don't have anything running in the background either. I cant find the bios menu to overclock my cpu at my motherboard menu when i start my computer...
1024X769 is very low, you many even see it perform better at 1440x900, play the game at your normal resolution, then 1440x900 and tell me what your frame rates are

higher resolution and game settings will drop fps dramatically......also check v-sync/frame lock setting......if enabled it won't let you go above 60fps

It's still about the same. getting 40-80 with both 1440x900 and 1024x768

not if it is a CPU bottleneck, a 2.3ghz PhI is super slow, with a single 9800gt i pull 100fps+ at 1680x1050 in COD4, so tell me that; COD4 is easier to run than CS:S

K, your CPU is holding back your video card, this is something we call a bottleneck effect, to counter act this, you need a new CPU, or overclock your existion on, what would you like to do? do you have stock cooling? what motherboard do you have?
