My new shiny 7800GTX 512MB that isn't so shiny -.-

Thread Starter
I just got my new 7800GTX 512MB, and with a fresh install of win MCE 2005, I score 7500.....***!!

my spec is below, and I'm just at a loss of why my new card is scoring less than my 7800GTX 256MB, which I scored 9k singely, and 12k in SLi...

I've updated to the latest nVidia drivers, which in the notes say, "added support for 7800GTX 512MB", got all my other drivers sorted etc...

Anyone have any suggestions as to why my card is crapping out on me?

Not enough power? My 7800GTX 256MB was dying on 650 watt PSU. Stock clocks, just eats alot of power. Seemed the Sli rail it was on wasn't providing enough juice.

Can you post your 3DMark compare URLs? You went from 7800GTX 256MB SLI to a single 7800GTX 512MB?

If you were able to run two 256MB 7800GTX's in SLI on that PSU, I don't see why that PSU can't run one 7800GTX 512MB...hmm... Maybe you got yourself a bad card. Check the temps. Is it topping out really high? If it is, then the card is probably throttling down, and that would explain the horrible scores.

nope, I've checked my temps in the middle of a game, just alt-tabbed to desktop, and it was reporting 56*C, so that's fine.

I've emailed BFG, awaiting a reply, but at the moment I'm disheartened, and it only cost my £500

on the plus side, I got a free t-shirt

compare urls?

my fps seems to vary wildly, like on cs_office, my 7800GTX was around 200 fps, and was always >100 fps, but after I've put my 7800GTX 512MB in, it has always been <100 fps, and often going down to 30-40, and one time when 5 people shot at me (I dodged matrix style....j/k), it went down to single figure fps!!! ***!? *cry*

if anyone see's a mangled PC lieing outside my window, u'll know why

When you upload a 3DMark05 result, click the details tab, check the publish box and then click the update button.

A compare URL should now show up and look something like this...

http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm05=1557831

If you can give us a compare URL, we can see if something is off.

there weren't any old drivers, it's a totally clean install of windows.

install windows (wiping both my hdd's by accident)
download nvidia drivers
download 3dmark05
bake for 50 minutes at 200*C or gas mark 4
restart and run benchmark

and no, I didn't bake my gfx card @ 200*C for 50 minutes

and OC newbie, I'll get those soon
