Hello all,

So my friend you guys may know him as mocha989 is building me a new computer. It'll run off of a intel Core i5 CPU and maybe Ati GPU if not then a nvidia card. This is going to be a gaming computer. I play Stalker and source games

Overclocking:

We have decided to overclock this system. Our target is 4.0GHZ on the GPu and then max out the GPU.

Chapters:

1. Ordering and Recieving parts
2. Going to frys on black friday to pick up parts not ordered
3. Put it together (Pictures of this process will be uploaded)
4. Pictures of Cable management (mocha989 said his goal was to make it the cleanest build he has ever done)
5. Overclocking
6. Bench marks
7. Screen shots of benchmark scores and final stable overclock validations

Parts We Have:

1. Cooler Master Storm Scout case
2. Foxconn Inferno Katana non-GTI (newegg at first sent us the GTI version of the board so we send that back and the non-GTI version is on its way)
3. G. Skill Ripjaws 4GB(2 x 2GB) DDR3 2000mhz memory
4. OCZ ModXtreme 600w power supply
5. 2x Cooler Master Red 120mm LED fans
6. Xigmakek LGA1156 mounting hardware for dark night CPU cooler
7. Zalman Fan Mate2 controller
8. Panaflo (NMB-MAT) 120 x 38mm 86CFM fan
9. XFX HD5850

Parts We Still Need:

(Getting these parts on Black Friday at Frys)

1. Intel Core i5 750
2. Xigmatek Dark Night cooler
3. LG 23" 1920 x 1080 Monitor (newly released)

Build and Pictures will Be started and uploaded on Black Friday and the weekend afterwards

You sure???? 5850s don't use much power as well as the i5.

600w is fine. The 5850 takes up less watts at idle, so I doubt that's a huge concern.
THANKS, GUILT1!

Agreed. It would just be a safer bet.
Also, why not get an i7 and overclock it to 4.0Ghz? To my belief and what I know so far, it will run better for gaming. And for the GPU, even though I prefer ATI, I clicked the wrong GPU, thinking it said 4850, until I realized. *facepalm*

Yeah, it takes less then a GTX260 and GTX275. Which is what we might get...

If you are on a budget... well then. GTX275.
The Core i5 is pretty amazing for gaming since no games use all of the Core i7. And I'm on a budget... Also, the GTX275 is worse than the HD5850, but the HD5850 is the same price.

Yeah, don't know why I even suggested the nVidia. I must be on something bad.
Also, Dirt2 seems to want i7 as a CPU of choice. Anyway, what about future releases?

I don't play any racing games at all haha.

As for the future, the overclock on the i5 should be able to handle future games for a long time. I hope.
