It seems I (and others on this forum) were right in our thinking that the R580 will have 16 pixel pipelines but will be able to process more than 32 pixels per clock, in reality it can process 48 pixels per clock which would be the equivalent of a R520 with 48 pipelines. It is also rumored to have memory speeds in excess of 900MHz (GDDR3) and a clock speed north of the R520's. Ofcourse nVidia's G71 will have the challenge of taking down this beast and from what I hear, it will finally be 90nm and will have a 700MHz+ clock speed. Im actually surprised that the R580 will most likely NOT use GDDR4, the article says it is doubtful because they are using the PCB directly from the R520 BUT I distincly remember ATI claiming that their ring memory bus can handle "1024MB of GDDR4" so maybe they CAN use GDDR4 AND the same PCB, only time will tell.

Ofcourse we aren't SURE but I mean who really cares? The article gave me the impression that the Xx50 designation is for graphics cards with new cores but that are basically the same but slightly tweaked like the R480 in the X850's, however the R580 is a totally new core over the other R500 generation so they decided it needed its own name lol. X1900XT sounds cooler than X1850XT anyways.
