Variable frequency with increased multiplier (Phenom II X2 550BE on GA-MA785GM-US2H)

Thread Starter
I recently increased the multiplier on my motherboard from 15.5 to 16.5, which is got me up to 3.31 GHz. Everything has been running great, but I noticed that the power-saving features of the processor no longer apply. The processor stays at 3.31 GHz, and 100% maximum frequency, whereas when I had it on "Auto" in the BIOS, it moved up & down when necessary.

I would really like to get this feature back while preserving the performance boost of the OC. Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks,
Chris

do you mean Cool and Quiet? (the processor downclocks when not in full use?) If so then you're out of luck when you OC Cool and Quiet does not work well, if at all, but it normally does not get disabled unless you disable it. Did you disable it or did the board do that automatically?

Yes, I suppose I am. The only thing I did was increase the multiplier. The frequency used to go from 800 MHz to 3.1 GHz depending on load, but now it stays at 3.3 GHz.

Yeah your board disabled Cool and Quiet for you because its been known to cause stability issues when you overclock. Any changing of the CPU clock will result in this, whether you change the multiplier or go by HT Ref. Clock.
