Pinhead-227 I REALLY hope this makes dual core 939's go down. That's my next upgrade...
Actully, it will make the price go up. I am soo happy, my sister got me a semphron 3100, 256k L2 CPU. If i had to wait til after christmas, the price would have skyrocketed. Let the AMD Athlon XP be an example of when a GOOD cpu goes out of production, the pric goes WAY up. AMD Athlon XP's are over 100$ on Ebay, 3200 bartons are around 150$ and people will buy them becuse they are GREAT cpu's. So just think what will happen with Athlon64 line. Buy em' now, and never trust the first batch of anything as drastick of a change an teh new AM2.

They're not discontinusing production of the Socket 939 X2s though, so the prices are only going to keep going down. Socket AM2 is nothing new architecturaly, it's just the same Athlon 64s we've been using for years with a DDR2 memory controller.

If anyone sees an X2 ANYTHING for less than $150 let me know so I can grab it!

Er, don't count on that... the cheapest X2 (the 3800+) is still like $350, and I wouldn't expect it to drop to any less than maybe $250 before it becomes obsolete.

Bah I guess I'll have to wait for it to become obsolete then! lol My 3000+ Winchester isn't exactly brand new technology and it still works well enough that I can wait quite a while.

Yeah, just because something is OBSOLETE doesn't mean it sucks, its just as good as the day it came out, just not as good compared to what else is out there lol. Personally I am building a ~$2000 gaming rig around March time so sockett AM2 should have its preliminary bugs and kinks worked out by then, hopefully.
