DFI Lanparty UT NF4 Ultra-D overclocking help !!!

post #1 of 28

well what it is ,is im going to get this board and i now that it is good at overclocking i have a a/64 3200+ 2.0 ghz i have good hsf and case cooling. How far to you think i could get the chip running at, im hopping for about 2.6 ghz

>what sort of memory timings would i need current they are 2.5 ,3,3,6
>and what multiplier would i use 10x or 9x what is better ?
>also is it safe to run the chip at this speed constant for every day use ?
>will it cut it life span in half?

As for memory timings, run as tight as you can and when it starts to max out use a divider. Higher speed memory with lax timings performs worse (aside from Sandra) than lower speed memory with tight timings. Keep the 10x multiplier, it will allow you to max out your CPU speed faster. Once you find that out, you can play the mobo/memory speed juggling act. Yes it's safe to run overclocked 24/7 as for its affect on life span, that's impossible to say. It's possible it could cut its life in half but by the time the chip dies, you'll want something new anyway.

Unfortunately every chip OC result is differet, 2.6ghz should be within your reach, you may want to run the ram on a divider to keep it at its rated speed although loosening the timings to 3-3-3-7 or so will probably give you a bit more mhz to work with, you may want to try dropping it to 166 right off the bat and raising the FSB to 250, 4x multi for HTT, keep the CPU multi at 10x, try that for a start. With the ram on that divider it'll be running around 415mhz, try keeping the 2.5-3-3-6 timings at that speed. Good luck

HTT should be set to 3x
multi= 10x
FSB = 260
mem timings = 2.5-3-3-8
vcore 1.5v

You could try it at those settings and it should work...

Well considering you have Geil ram, Im wondering if you have TCCD or BH-5, are you using the ONE series? If youre using TCCD you shouldnt need a divider, but with BH-5 youll have to up the voltage on the ram a bit to get it to work for you most likely.

enzo15 it is easiest to find out the maximum speed of your processor first before trying to get great performance. By that I mean if you overclock without using a divider, it is very possible that your memory could top out before yoru CPU does. Find out what the max speed of all your components (CPU, mobo, memory) are individually first then juggle the numbers which provide you with best performance.

For AMD systems, CPU speed is king, memory speed/timings are a far second when determining overall performance.

yeah, my CPU hasn't topped out yet (550MHz faster than stock) but my memory is playing silly buggers (multi over 1000 (255x4)). Time to lower it. Idling at 19C, so I guess pushing the CPU hard isn't as detrimental as it is said, provided you can cool. heat is the thing you wanna watch out for, and hey, have fun!
