Left 4 Dead 2 crash to desktop fix

So here is something I found that fixed the issue I had with the game constantly crashing. Just thought I would put it up here in case anyone needed it.

This is for vista users (I'm unsure if it'll work for others). If at any point it comes up with the annoying 'are you sure?' messages, just click through them as per normal.

1)Navigate to your windows folder (usually c:/windows/)
2)Inside there, goto the CSC folder
3)Try to open the folder and it should fail (if it doesn't, you have a different problem). It'll come up with 'You don't currently have permission to access this folder' at which time you keep pressing continue until it says you've been denied.
4)Right-click the folder, go to properties.
5)Go to the security tab at which point it'll say 'To continue, you must be an administrative user with permission to view this object's security properties' at which point you click continue.
6)Click on admin in the owner tab which will swap the owner to the administrator then click OK.
7)You then click on OK once again which will bring up the security tab.
8)Tick 'full control', press OK twice to get out of the properties tabs.
9)Run the game.

Also, a list of fixes if this one doesnt work can be found here

nope - but my Vista settings probably already allowed that. I did hear CCC 9.10 was causing game crashes - which I saw with BF2 - was fine with CCC 9.11 in Vista last night, trying BF2 in XP x64 tonight on 9.11

My problem was: Upon trying to load L4D2, it would CTD directly after the intro video.

My solution:

1) In steam, right-click Left 4 dead 2 and click "delete local content." Confirm.
2) Re-install the game.
3)?
4) Profit. Er, I mean it works. So far.

I have been fighting left for dead 2 CTD after the intro since I upgraded from Vista x64 to Windows 7. It ran fine on Vista x64 but could get nothing but the intro then back to the desktop, never got to the the opening menu screen.

I went thru many of the fixes but finally found this one that worked for me on another site.

Load Steam.
on the screen that shows the games you have installed, right click on the Left for dead 2 icon.

Then Properties - Local files - Verify Integrity of Local Cache.

After it does its thing, mine worked properly after that.

Thank you so much for this tip. I got a new graphics card that is too new for Steam to recognize, and I got this error. Your tip fixed it. I appreciate it so much.
