***BBQ, I don't get it. Why are they selling the PS3 for $100 less than the manufacturing cost? Shouldent it be the other way around? I don't really get the whole stock market/time share thing...

That is jsut the way console companys work. They will make more money off of the games that are made for it. After the PS3 has been production and paid off the equipment required to make it it will start to recoup some money lost in the first year.

Did you see the reviews on the controller and system. The developers are hating the system. Several developers won't even make games for it anymore. Its like a better xbox. They make a significant ammount of money of there games. Think about how much it really cost them to make them. A game like halo that about everyone with a xbox has brings in so much money and sony may get a tiny profit from everyone for the rights but it turns out to be massive.

They sell it at such a low price but make a huge profit later on when all of the licenses and such pay them. They did the same exact thing for the PS2, made it all back + a whole lot more within 1-2 years. If they were to sell it at full price not nearly as many people would buy it and they may not make quite as much money as fast, either way it's a pretty good thing for people that are going to buy it regardless of price as you save 100$.

Guys, every console since the Xbox has been losing its creator money (not sure about GameCube....) its just the way they do it. After a year or so, they start making the stuff inside cheaper by moving the CPU from 130nm to 110nm and 90nm and because it is older tech the prices start to fall so it becomes cheaper to make the consoles also. Infact, Microsoft plans for the Xbox360's CPU to be 45nm by the time it is replaced in ~5 years by its successor!!
