Belkin F5D7000 v3 / v3000 on 64bit - Solved!

I made a new thread because I couldn't edit my old thread title and It was specific to XP. The solution I am about to provide has options for XP+.

Although only a specific few will find this useful, I did spend quite a while on several occasions trying to find out how to use my Belkin F5D7000 v3 on 64 bit, which had no drivers on the Belkin website except 32 bit. Well i'm using it right now and I'm on 64 bit Win7 Ultimate, thanks Belkin!

Considering this, I wanted to make a web-search friendly version to make it easy for people in the future to find and hopefully get sorted alot quicker than I did!

To get it running...

1. Before installing your OS 64 bit, make sure you download this and have it on a USB or something beforehand.

http://www.ralinktech.com/support.php

For the v3 version of this card at least, it uses Ralkintech components. Therefore this driver is compatible. Find the PCI/mPCI/CB (RT2500) in the list for your OS. Vista for Win7. Maybe more available in the future. It takes ages! But worth it.

2. Install OS and what not, and install the drivers. After an initial problem, I set compatibility to Vista, and ran as Admin. Although this might not be necessary.

3. Go to device manager. There should be some flagged uninstalled devices, one of which being your Network Adapter. Right click > Properties > Drivers > Update Drivers > Browse My Computer... > Let me pick... > Dbl click Show All Devices. Let that load. Browse to Ralinktech drivers. There's Inc and Corp, within one of these there is one with the RT2500 drivers in there for Wireless LAN card, or something very similar. Use this.

Voila!

Although if Belkin just added support for this driver themselves, it could be alot easier!

For other version you may be able to use other drivers in a similar way. Try and find the makers of the card. I think Broadcom also makes certain components for them in other versions.

I signed up solely to say...I love you!!

Well, maybe that's a bit strong...

But I'm very grateful biggrin.gif. Been looking everywhere for a solution that would get my Belkin F5D7000 version 3 (3000) wireless card working in Win 7 x64. I tried most of the drivers in the MS manufacturer list, none of them worked.

So I downloaded the RT2500 driver from Ralink and blow me down if it doesn't ****ing work! Awesome! Despite the fact that I got a nice pop-up from MS when I installed the card (which has been sitting in my loft for about 5 years) telling me that Ralink had advised MS that the card would not work with this OS.

Yes it's only a tenner saved for a new network card, but it's still satisfying not having to shell out for a new one or go to the hassle of getting one.

Thanks again, you ROOORCK!

So a million years after you originally posted this solution, thank you.

Just built a new windows 7 PC for my roomate who had the belkin f5d7000 v3000 in his previous windows xp machine, and he couldn't get it working.

Was sorta on the right trail, i started searching for what chipset his card had (after finding out there is 8 of them)....but you made it easy.

Thanks, your awesome.

Thanks you're wonderful. I was on 5 other web forums with no success. Last Belkin product I will buy seeing how they don't care enough about their customers to provide drivers for Windows 7 if your product is a few years old. Obviously they want to strong-arm people into buying a new network card.

Had this problem ages ago, but just fixed it by downloading a different driver can't remember which, still good post for people in trouble.

many thanks! this solution still works.
ralink have been taken over but you get redirected and the RT2500 driver can still be found,
you then FORCE windows to use it - just like dom_sufc said.
I did it on windows 7 32 bit successfully
took a few minutes but well worth the trouble.

so many many thanks.

belkin should be ashamed - it would take very little work to "wrap" up this driver in a belkin package and make it available
its not like they would need a team of coders to start from scratch.

thanks again.

best wishes
