First full build in almost 6 years - Page 2

PSU is never overkill. People don't seem to understand how IMPORTANT a power supply is.
There are motherboards out there like classified that don't really accept what ever kind of psu.
A good psu is always a good investment.

Edit: Your choice of system seems good.

They're saying that the power supply he linked has WAY more than enough power for his rig, and he could get a cheaper one that'd make no difference.

OP: I fully support that power supply, however. If you like the P183, and you're going to keep it for a while, you may as well get the CP-850, it's an amazing PSU.

Ditch the 140w / C2 Phenom II 965, and grab the new 125w / C3 stepping one, that came out recently:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103727 Will run MUCH cooler, and supposedly overclocks better with the new stepping.

Good build, otherwise. But hell, with a $1,200 budget, I'd be going i7 / P55 for faster performance, myself. But that's just me.

Well, I'm definitely still gonna at least consider other PSU's, but regardless I'm still looking at the Antec one (since it's supposedly made for the P183 and other similar high-end Antec cases)

I did not notice this before. Thanks for the find

That is exactly what I meant... My current optical drive is one I bought back in '03... The other one I bought at the same time has long since fried.

and to save money, you could get an open box Crosshair III Formula for $145, or change mobos entirely.

The price of the HD 5000 series keeps changing everywhere... It's probably best if I just wait until after the holidays when the prices stabilize a bit before deciding exactly what to get. I have thought about it and want to go RAID3 with 2x 320GB and a single 640GB. I also want to increase RAM to 8GB and save myself the hassle of upgrading later.

Edit: I also don't like the Antec 300.
