First build ever (suggestions welcome)! - Page 3

Ahh, well ya see... there's a deal, a combo with the PSU and graphics card. What's so bad about the X-Finity anyway? The dual rail technology sounds like it's pretty useful. And it has dual 80mm fans instead of one 120mm.

PS are an odd thing...
The "Watt" rating alone is not a good indicator of it's ability.
Check the 12+v rail which should total at least 24a with 1 vid card and 34a with 2... and look for Reviews. The single most overlooked item in a stable OC is the PS!
On the fan size, there are many aspects to the sivs and how many.
Larger usually equals higher volume with less noise. Dualy offer the pluss of a push pull. The effect of quality cooling can equate to a more stable PS at high loads because with themp increases the stability drops. So good case air flow not only keeps the MB/CPU/GPU etc.... cool but effects the PS temps and stability as well.

There are (2) +12V rails, one is 18A, the other is 20A. Does this qualify as 38A?

Problem,
I need to decide between getting an Athlon 64 3700+ w/ this graphics card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814150118
Or an Athlon 64 3000+ w/ this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130249
Or, should I invest in an Opteron?
Keep in mind I'm going to have a DFI Lanparty UT NF4 SLI-DR Expert

I'd do the Venice 3000+ with the 7800gt, simply because games are more dependent on video card than CPU. If you can find it, try to get an Opteron 144, double the cache, and for the about the same price.

Does my mobo support Opteron? And, is the Opteron 144 (I'm guessing it has a 1MB L2 Cache) better than the 3000+?

Don't worry about pricing, I can get those easy. What I need to know is if my mobo (DFI Lanparty UT NF4 SLI-DR Expert) can support an Opteron and if I'd be better off getting a 3000+, 3700+, or Opteron. I'm thinking I want the 1MB cache, but I'm not sure if I can spent the extra $90 for it. Also, I hear Opterons are picky. This is my first build/OC, so I'm thinking I should go with either the 3000+ or 3700+, but I'm open for suggestions as I'm not very experienced. I DO plan on OC'ing whatever I get to the maximum safe/stable level.
