Apart from the bottom being to thin it should be ok provided you can mount it ok.

I can't ever seem to get things right and aligned when I'm benching ln2. =o\\. Insulation was a tad heavy on the bottom side of the pot and wasn't allowing for a full seat. I pulled the pot right off the cpu @ -185c, which tells me it wasn't seated all the way as it should have been frozen to the cpu. I got a good cpu so I was a little boggled as why my clocks weren't good. Plus this was my second time using this board, and the first time using a bios that wasn't a release bios. I was on the f2. Should have been able to bench around 6.5 on 06 with this cpu, but NO. =o\\ stupid mounts! I have got to be the world's worst mounter.

....that's what she said... o.0

I'm going to have to get me another MSI GD-70 as I could manipulate that board at will to do what I wanted. This 790FXTA-UD5 just wants to back-talk like a little child. I prolly only benched around an hour today as I wanted to reseat the pot and make some more go's. Just lost interest so I just hooked the i7 back up.

I HAD a 6.6 but I can't figure out where I saved the cpu-z at! Unless, I didn't save it. =o\\

http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=906231

This is my first and only 06 run. I didn't run it anymore after this or try higher speeds. I'm pretty sure it would have benched around 6.2'ish at least. Even with the shoddy mount I had down on it.

I guess not bad for an AMD score...

a snap of today's run...

and a perfect little machine to have access to the forums and the net while you bench and not take up much space or resources while benching. I had this on the other side of my monitor during the ln2 session.

Nothing like chattin' away in ocn's vent server while delicately pouring some ln2 love sauce in your cpu pot.

Nice work and good scores, NCspecV81!

About the mounting, I use to press it down once then take it off again and remount it. Then I can check if the mounting is good. I've done the same on water..it was -33c outside here...so I had to insulate the Mobo, and I had a sheet of neoprene for the block..so it ddin't mount very well the first time. So 66 idle outside in -33

yeah, I should start remounting after the initial mount. I would just hate to take it off and it actually be a good mount lol. I know this mount was bad, it should have been frozen like a mofo, but it wasn't. practically pulled right off w/o any effort.

Throw some copper scrap into the pot, that will help hold the cold over the core longer. You could even cut up some heavier gauge copper wire into little chunks and toss those in, before you add ice and tone of course..

Hey nice run NC! AMD,AMD,AMD!...

Kris, the NB pot is a good idea. The biggest problem I see is the huge base surface diameter. Getting it insulated and mounted flush without hitting other things will be tough. You don't need to get your NB very cold on the Commando and you can just fill that thin based container with DICE (with or without Acetone) and forget about it for a while.

NCspec, good mounts that are well insulated are tough. I start with 2X the usual amount of ceramique, place the pot, and press firmly. Then I remove it to check contact and redistribute eraser. I repeat until I get "stalactites and stalagmites" of TIM that are of uniform height. Then I wipe off the TIM from the pot base (stalactites), leave the TIM on the CPU (stalagmites), and do a final screwed in mount.

LN2 benching is a lot like spelunking.
