For me it's bad. Couple weeks ago I got some water in the socket using the SS, so tried some vaseline in the socket for the first time in a long time (first time freezing I used vaseline in socket & ended up with black pads on the cpu). Used too much at first, had many issues, melted some out so not too much in the socket, board stopped working period. Washed it in the sink, works again but the cpu seems to have an above zero CBB now.
Just going to leave the socket alone again.

same thing happened to me a few weeks back except after i washed my board, my chips got CB at -145c.

I dont think im going to use vaseline on any part of the board from now on. Maybe proper dielectric grease would be different, but im thinking i may just stick with LET. The one pro to grease though is that its easy to apply and leaves absolutely no trace once its been properly washed, whereas LET takes a lot longer to apply and always leaves miniscule trace in hard to reach areas

Good thing about Vaseline is that you can clean it better from motherboard
personally i like a combination of LET with eraser to seal the socket area.

the only bad thing about LET and eraser together is that if i use a layer of LET and then a layer of eraser, the eraser will stick to the LET layer. The only way to get the eraser up is to peel up the entire layer of LET along with it, which will be forever mixed into the eraser. Maybe its the brand of eraser i use (Faber Castel) but the eraser permanently sticks to LET.

I have that issue as well. I just try to avoid touching them together.

I haven't had any issues with LET & eraser, I use the soft grey 'General' brand. Eraser & vaseline is a different story, touching each other makes a real mess.

I also had problems with vaseline it freezes in the scoket and pushes the pins off the chip so no boot mad.gif May have been what some of the pin burn you guys are talking about was caused by thumb.gif

yeah thats basically what i do too.. i only overlap them a little bit around the edges and such, but thats all. i certainly avoid doing an entire layer of LET and then an entire layer of eraser on top of it thumb.gif

that explains so much! and follows deductive reasoning.. I wonder if there is an alternate grease (i.e. regular dielectric grease) that wont freeze under full pot scenarios
