I would stick to the KPE mate and I wouldn't bother with the lightning. So far from what I've seen the KPE is the perfect overclocking graphics card and I don't think you'll be able to get a better LN2 card than that.

Ya I am thinking the same thing. I am having so much fun freezing cards so I want to start seeing how different cards react. I will probably stick with a kpe though. I would love to have one of each. the 2 3d benches in the pro oc cup are amd favored so it would be nice to have the lightning also.

I have seen somebody post a result with a lightning 780Ti already and I seem to remember them hitting a wall at 1700MHz and not being able to go any further, so that is something else to consider when looking at what graphics card you want to buy. Have you considered getting some older card like the 8800 series, volt modding them and getting some results with them? They do have a much higher cold bug than your 780Ti and I'm sure they'd run a lot cooler so at least you might use up a lot less LN2 which is also cheaper in the long run. Another card which I have only ever benched on DICE is the 4870. That's worth quite a lot of points too so it will help with your league ranking as well smile.gif

That might help you to learn a little bit more about different drivers, tweaking volt modding etc so I suppose that will help you to get better results in the long run?

I think Strong is talking about the lightning 290x from MSI that was recently released. The lightning 780ti wasnt released to retail so theres not many out there as you prob know. If he gets that 290x and gets a replacement kingpin card were all in trouble lol tongue.gif
post #3195 of 7325
Yup you're right, just read back over it now. I'm dissapointed with the 290X from an OC perspective. I really hope the black screen issue was fixed with the lightning or I just won't bother with AMD until the 300 series comes out. 1400MHz isn't even achievable at the moment on LN2 with the cards frown.gif
post #3196 of 7325
ya that would be dissapointing. I'm hoping with the lightning combined with abx and ln2 might see better results. i really wanted it because of the tweaks allowed at hwbot. a lot of the top scores are with cards in the 1300mhz range so this card should be good for that.

Because it's a lightning card and you never know but it might have a brand new voltage regular that currently can't be controlled by any other piece of software. ABX will almost certainly be able to control the voltage to whatever limit MSI have set, no doubt something stupid like 2V.

Strong Island with regards to tweaks you have a PM son wink.gif

I'm a little new to amd cards and afterburner so I don't even know what the other alternatives are yet. My card will be here tommorrow and I still have my tank till monday so I am trying to find something fast.

All lightning cards use the chl8318, abx is the same as ab but the sliders have no limit.
