Looks that way biggrin.gif
I picked up an old 5000btu window ac unit today. I stripped the casing off of it so far and a quick test after bypassing the thermostat the evap get's down to a chilly -17C (20-25c ambient). biggrin.gif
I'm going to use it to cool a 50/50 antifreeze mix to pump through my system. Should work a heck of a lot better (and cheaper) than bags of ice like I'm using now. thumb.gif

Might get some pics up later or sometime tomorrow.

Or just duct the cold air into an case for a very easy chill. Did this on the regular for a time.

I'm using a test bench so that's not possible. Plus I'm looking for maximum cooling ability, short of putting the evap on the component directly. smile.gif

I've gotten the chiller all finished up now, all it needs is a good test run.

Evap got down to a real nice -25C and it was still dropping at about 0.1C per 2-3 seconds. thumb.gif

I'm planning on getting a cooler box for the evap later because I didn't have one on hand that I could use, a bucket wrapped with towels should suffice for now.

Not really sure if this or the HWBOT team thread is more active but I will ask here first. I managed to grab a Tek 9 GPU pot off another member here but haven't even done anything GPU wise so I have a couple of questions.

What are some good cards to start with and are there cards that you can VMod without epower boards since I have no way to get any since EVGA doesn't have anymore and has no plans to do another run on them.

Is windows 7 sufficient for 3d benching and does it make a difference between 32/64 bit?

The 8800 GT and HD 4850/70 are good cards to start with. They're cheap, easy to mod and benefit a good amount from the cold. You can also get a good amount of points from them because each one has tons of submissions.

For 3D benching I like to use XP 32 for 3DM01, 03 & 05 and then Win 7 64 for 06 and on. 32 vs 64 doesn't make a noticeable difference from what I've seen, though 64 is usually preferred.

All those old cards are a lot of fun and easy to vmod. Might not get any golds without an epower, but can still get good scores. On those 48xx series cards, a lot of the reference cards if not all come qith quimonda ics and they just don't clock well. Some times you can find a non-reference with samsung and those clock a lot higher. I've found a few msi cards on ebay like that and they were much better than all my reference cards.

Pretty much an 8800/9800 series or the 48xx series cards are good. 5850 and 5870 are also good.
