The older PS may have also been part of the heat creating issue!
All that matters is your new temps which is GREAT and the fact that you have plenty of quality power to OC

i had a qtec psu , 650 triple fan, gold looking, put a 6800gt on it, and it flaked out within 2 days, im talking, 12v psu connecter welded its self to my motherboard , my advice is get a differant psu before you get you 6800, ive got a hiper type-r modular, brill psu, ive got a 7800gtx running on it, my water pump, overclocked, cpu, 6 cathodes, and the 12v rail never falls below 12.02 it cost me £56 of ebay, look into them as they are only about 20£ more than the qtec's

oh dear, sounds like i've bought a bad one then?
replacing the psu (again) will totally screw up my budget, unless i can sell it on to reduce the loss.

well, if you are good at making something sound better than it is, then put it on ebay, you hould get your money back,

as for the q-tec, it is a very bad psu, it may say it can output 28a on the 12v rail, it will, but for only a few seconds, it will hinder anyoverclock you try as it wont be able to keep up with the extra load,

as i said, the hiper type-r modular is a very good psu for the price, it will soon be running 2x 7800gtx's and im confident it will not flake out, by all mean, use the q-tec untill you have money to get a better one, just dont try and overclock, as you could do more damage than good

Is it a recient purchase? If so you could return it stating it's not stable and want a credit twards an different one.

yes Duke, 3 days ago, i bought it to replace another nightmare purchase i had made. see: http://www.overclock.net/power-suppl...u-puzzler.html
i was given the choice of 2 psu's at a local place (where my son has been working) andcame away with that the q-tec 650.
maybe i should start to look for another immediately.
