Sony Vaio mobo upgrade

Hey guys,

I just got a great agp video card because i read on a site that my vaio (pcv - rs410) had an agp slot. I open the box, of course, no agp slots, only pci. So, I know, in theory, I can just replace the mobo with one with an agp slot, taking my p4 and RAM over. But the guy at compUSA said that he heard that sony's don't react well to new mobos. Does anyone have any experience upgrading a vaio's motherboard or have any other ideas as to what I should do?

Thanks in advance.

do it if you have a copy of the windows CD, when u put in a new mobo, you need to REPAIR not reformat if you don't want to lose your files

call sony and ask why ur computer doeen't have an AGP slot when it should...

the holes on a regular ATX Powersupply dont match up with the holes on the Vaio (well, at least the RS610) when i was going to upgrade the mobo in my RS610 I was told the holes in the motherboard dont match up with the ones on regual MATX boards.

I have a video card in my RS610 and I dunno about that 266W one it comes with , I checked on the site and it said changing the powersupply in my system may void my warrenty so im just building my own now

no kidding, it has the holes in the mobo but no slot, really lame. I have read multiple places that you can't add an agp slot to a mobo so I guess that's not an option. I'd have to find a mobo that's the exact size right? And I've read a tutorial about being able to pop out my ram and processor so that seems like a viable option, since there are mobo's out there for like 40 bucks, but are those that low for a reason?

stupid vaio, its a p4 2.66 w/ 512 ram, decent machine, just garbage that it has no agp slot

Yeah with a cheap mobo you get what you pay for. With a cheap one also you usually can't oc.

I had a vaio that absolutely hated it when i tried to put things in it. Sony really doesnt like people having a choice of what to do when you buy their things
