Transfering Data between My PC and a Laptop

My girl friends laptop is so full of rubbish that it really needs a format, I was planning on moving it from Vista to Windows 7 anyway.

The problem is there's 25+Gb's of Data on there in the form of pictures/movies/song that she can't be without.

All I need is software that'll will allow me to transfer the files and folder in an easy way as I'm a complete noob at this stuff!!

I don't mind paying for software as It'll come in quite handy and be used quite regularly.

You dont need software all you need is a ethernet cable and connect it to two computers and just move the data from the latptop to your desktop. If she has Vista all you have to allow sharing and it should be easy as one two three.

Connect the ethernet cable and what you want to do is allow sharing on a public network temporarily so that both the computers can see each other. On the laptop go to the Network Sharing Center and then view full map and you should see your desktop.

I'm on OSX let me boot into 7 real quick.
