CPU Speed & Voltage Question - Page 3

post #21 of 29
question. do you have your l2 unlocked? with those xp 2000+ there was a mod you had to do to the proc. there's a video of it somewhere on the internet. its where you use superglue and like silver glue to bridge i think it was the l2 and it gave you all the unlocks for everything. you needa do everything in BIOS btw if you haven't been doing it. set your fsb to 133 and try to drop your multi to 12x. just experiment with the right settings. the XP 2000+ doesn't overclock that well anyways...

How would dropping the FSB and multi down overclock it? That's all I've done (and 12.5 is stock) So How do I overclock any other ways, nothing else allowed me to do anything in the BIOS. My BIOS is teh suck. Nothing is unlocked I don't think, I'm new to overclocking.

you drop your multi down and try to raise the FSB a bit more. loosen your ram timings a little, like 3-5-5-10, and see what you can do with it then. if you're confused, post a picture of your bios and i'll help you out from there

How do I get a picture of the BIOS; do I need to search the web? Prnt Scrn doesn't work because it restarts after you exit/save the Bios.

This picture must be a newer version, because I don't have the stuff on the right hand side. Just the left.

SDRAM CAS Latency Time:
2.5 (set on)
2
Auto

change this to 2.5-3-3-8 and tell me what it does

2.5 = CAS
3 = tRCD
3 = tRP
8 = tRAS

i believe

How? The only 3 options I had were 2.5, 2 or auto.
I manually typed out every option I have.

put in 2.5 and see what the other setting go to in cpu-z so he can see what your timings loosen to. Ram can bottle neck you, multiplier can limit you, psu can limit you, etc. There are a lot of things in the way of overclocking, but mostly you want to make it all go faster...so loosening the timings will slow the ram's performance, but your cpu clock will go faster...it's a balancing act

Also, you know when to stop overclocking when the heat gets too high for you, your processor melts, or the computer randomly reboots without warning...or it fails a prolonged exposure to prime95 (or just running the cpu at 100% for a long time). Good luck!
