Suggestions building AMD gaming comp.

Thread Starter
I'm planning on building an AMD gaming BEAST for about 800 bucks(U.S).I've got a few ideas floating around my head, but I would like to see what you guys can come up with.I'm looking at getting a Nvidia 6800GS or a 7800GT,but not sure which one would be the best for my budget.Of course since its in the AMD section I'm looking at an AMD processor.I've been reading up on the 3800X2 and the 3700 san diego but yet again not sure which one will be the best for my budget.I've got a 15 in. LCD monitor so that will hold me for now,I'll upgrade it a little later on.I will also get new speakers, mouse, and keyboard later on.I really would appreciate any input on what I should buy.I might possibly spend 900-1000 bucks but I could use that money to get an ipod so I'm not sure yet.Links and prices will also be appreciated.Thank You for your kind hospitality with helping me as I'm sure you guys/girls will.

For starters, I would suggest the 7800GT because it has 20 pipelines vs the 6800 which will have 16. As far as processors are concerned it depends on your needs. Are you the type of computer user that likes to burn cd's while playing certain games? Or do you like to focus on one thing at a time. A dual core proccessor will give you that ability, but will not have the same OCing potential as some of its single core peers. The 3700 San diego is probably the best bang for the buck. There are many people on this forum that are running 2.7 ghz or higher on it with little setting changes and very reasonable temperatures. I have a 4000 SD right now that is running at 2.75 and thats not even pushing the limits. Just some initial info for you in your knowledge pursuit.

I thought that the 7800GT would be the way to go,probaly gonna get an evga one from newegg they seem to be the best priced with great quality.I will mainly be using the computer for HARDCORE GAMING.I was gonna get an opty 148 but I don't wanna risk a bad stepping,as I'm on a highschool budget and can't afford to waste money(although my budget is quiet big for a teenager ty partime jobs) .So what else should I get including everything from case to power supply.

PS.would really like to play games like Dark Horizons Lore Invasion, quake 4,call of duty 2,and FEAR at at least medium settings with as little lag as possible.

Pretty darned close to the whole budget right there. I would keeep the 7800, but downsize to a 3500 Clawhammer.
And then borrow almost everything else from Duke's mock-up.

Ah I forgot to mention that I don't need a harddrive,C.D writer,or C.D burner I already have those.I like your idea's duke but I would get an Evga 7800GT as I would prefer an Evga one as they have better support and stuff.HMMM without those extra things that I already have that would be about 95 dollars that I save, could put that extra money towards a better case, ram, cpu,or psu. Thanks for those ideas I'll think about them overnight and see what I can decide on.
