Oh well. According to Speedfan, my CPU core is only 22°C. The socket sensor is 39°C. This is folding!

always wondered what will happen if my tec decides to stop working and what sort of temps i will end up with, that is interesting, Im pretty sure if i turned mine off it will skyrocket to more than 60c easily under load, what volts are you running 24\\7 or do you back off a bit for everyday use or even take it out all together?? im running one of these things so that cant happen to me.....again. lol http://www.pccasegear.com.au/prod2100.htm

How long was the system on before you noticed? Worst thing I ever did with a TEC is wire the thing backwards, turned on the system and killed my CPU and mobo lol.

I noticed it when it broke 10°C. But I was curious to see how high it would go, and if it got too high, I'd just flip my PSU back on. I let it run for about an hour with the PSU off. 22° sounds about right, only a few degrees above room temperature of 70°F. It's strange, though, because I always thought the TEC would be an insulator more than a conductor when there's no power to it.

Edit: My CPU runs at 2.6 Ghz 24/7 at 1.6 volts.

thats what ive been thinking, when not powered up its just not going to let anything through easily, maybe you have proved it incorrect. im gonna have to give it a go i think.

um.........yeah I tried it and the thing shot up to about 60c and then crashed, thats at 2997mhz @ 1.75vcore, Im having hassles keeping the pelt cool at the moment, how many rads are you running, Im just running the one and the temps gradually creep up over time, need improvement I think.

I've got two full heater cores, about 7 inches by 8.25 inches apiece with an automotive radiator fan blowing through. The fan is hooked up to 5 volts, so it's barely pushing any air, though it's just enough to keep the water cooled. I haven't had any trouble with the temps gradually rising, though if I'd get a little more airflow, it'd probably work better (you can't even feel the air moving, but can feel the heat coming off the rads). I'm using a Seltz L35 as the pump with 1/2" ID tubing.

It's strange that your temps shot up to 60°C... That's what everyone else says would happen, too. I wonder how my TEC is different than everyone elses'... I thought maybe Speedfan was incorrectly showing temps, but I checked in the BIOS and it stayed right around the same as Windows idle temp.

Why use 1/2" ID tubing unless that is the ID of your pump fittings? It doesn't increase your flow rate at all compared to a 3/8 ID tube in 1/2 OD fittings. Just put the tube in boiling water for a sec and push the tubing on the fittings. You don;t lose flow as the capacity for flow is determined by the ID of the pump fittings, not the ID of the tubing attatched as long as it is the same size as the pump outlet. Plus, using 3/8 ID tubing on 1/2 OD fittings looks cleaner and will not come off unless you tend to go skydiving with your case.

Because that's what the Home Depot had. It wasn't any more expensive, though, and I can still change my fittings (which I plan on doing sometime in the future) for more free flow.
