Can you Overclock a Geforce MX 440? - Page 2

Hmm, will I notice a difference with it overclocked; or do I need to turn some settings up? (I barely touched it, because of no fan ><) But I moved it up from Core 249 to 253 and Memory 150 to 155. How far should I move it without a fan that would keep it safe. It's about 4 inches from the side case fan.

Play some games for awhile, if you notice atifacts, crazy squares, colors, odd shapes, anything thats not usual, then lower clock frequencies and try playing again and see if things are cleared up.

I like AtiTool .25 beta 10 (http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/104)
because it has a Scan for Artifacts feature that can tell you if you've started artifacting.

Artifacting is usually caused by too much heat but in some cases your card will start to artifact if it has reached its limit, then you need a voltage mod. But the best solution to prevent artifacting is better and more cooling. Try attaching a 80mm or even a 40mm fan to your heatsink to increase core overtclockability for example.

Goodluck.

Edit: To tell if overclocking has improved your performance, use benchmarks such as Aquamark, 3dmark (01se, 03, or 05).
Here 3dmark01se, its a good benchmarking for your card:
http://www.futuremark.com/download/?3dmark2001.shtml

Just run a benchmark before and after every overclock to see if your gaming performance is increasing.

Increment the Core/memory frequencies by 5-10MHz each time using ATI tool to check for artifacts (Weird glitches/lines on your screen) Keep going until you start to notice artifacts on your screen at which point means the card is getting to hot and is not stable!

What happens if I hit Find Max Core OR Find Max Mem and let it keep going? Will it break my card? Cause I got scared and stopped em when Core hit 300Mhz. and Mem hit 200 Mhz. (from 250/150). Then I got nervous while running the Artifact scanner and after about 6 minutes the computer just shut off. (CPU reached 54*C) So I let it cool. Then turned comp back on. I set the settings to 275/180, and then I let the artifact scanner run for 27 minutes, nothing happened so I aborted. Do those three processes just keep going till something breaks?

Find max core and find max memory let you find your maximum clock speeds your card can handle without producing errors. Leave them both for a couple hours and then see were they settle.

Your card was probs getting to hot and wasnt stable at 300/200 speeds. My advice would be to get some aftermarket cooling. Artifact scanner will run for sometime. The processes will keep going and going until your completely stable.

Nah I'm not going to, because I'm getting a totally new computer (all in parts for me to put together ) for xmas and I don't have an extra monitor for this one. So.. it's just gonna be sitting for a bit.
