How to silence the X800GTO fan!

Thread Starter
Hi,

My X800GTO FireBlade's fan is loud. while I know this is probably a necessary evil, it's beginning to bug me as i've just drastically dropped my PC's noise output with a W-Force Super Panel (fancy name for a fan controller lol), even knocking the RPMs of most of the fans in half has not really affected the temperatures all that much. The Zalman CNPS7700 has worked wonders, at 17C on idle in silent mode. Could it be noisy due to a bearing needing oil or is it just a loud gpu?!

If your temps are okay, you could use software, such as ATI Tool to control the speed of the fan. This would have to be loaded all the time though to do this. I presume this would work on an x800GTO okay, could try if you want.
Otherwise, aftermarket cooling might be an option; the Zalman vf700cu is an excellent cooler and is very quiet.
Btw, have you tried unlocking any extra Pipelines yet on your card?

No - I'm not sure this can be done on the X800GTo although I've read to the contrary. What do they do?!

If you follow this link and post your fuses, I can tell you whether it's worth trying to unlock the pipelines. Basically a nice performance boost in games!

In ati tool SHIFT click the options button or whatever and go into the overclocking options. It should say some stuff about pipelines etc. Take a screen shot and post it and we'll tell you whether or not you can flash it! Who knows, you could have a XT PE hidden away in that gto!

As for the noisy fan, Once again download ati tool check temps and if they are fairly good, Reduce fan speed. When gaming it's essential to increase it though.

TBH I don't think so, there are Es there. but I can run the stock memory and clock speeds that the X850XTPE does, so I guess....also what's the maximum temperature of these cards? I heaerd its' something insane

Yep, sorry, laser cut and locked at 12 pipes on the die
The cards can reach high temps, if they get too high they will thermal throttle to avoid damage. As always though, lower temps are better for card longevity
