6.5 and 6.5.1 is quite a bit faster and looks better overall. Takes getting used to the changes though. I did exactly what you did until everyone pretty much went 6.5 only. Now that I've been on 6.5 for a couple months could never go back to 6.1.

I don't like to pay for features I'm not gonna use, s that hard for a company to make a good cell that only makes calls (with 3g or above technology so I can make international calls with no problem) sends text messages and have fast and functional agenda? With all the tech that is popping out of nowhere everyday it shouldn't be a big deal.

And it would be cheap.
First you imply you wanted a simple phone, then you say its too simple. Sorry, but it sounds like you're arguing in circles.

Cars didn't always come with air bags, it was an add on feature that eventually became a standard. Texting wasn't always something that came with a cell phone either.
Times change, and you're not paying for features you're not going to use. Extra features become standards, and you have an option use it or ignore it.
No its not hard to make a phone that only makes calls, there are plenty designed to just make calls.

Seems to me your stance is on wanting a simple phone but you also want to look "cool." If you're reluctant to pay more for a phone that does more than make calls and text, most carriers offer phones that does calls and text for free with a two year contract or you can find those phones on eBay for 100 bucks.
Simply put, these "extras" you're complaining about are becoming standards on all phones. YOU'RE NOT FORCED TO USE THEM.

Decent article, I still love my G1 [i.e. with Android OS], and I think Android is already, and will continue to shoot upward at a rapid pace, so many new phones have been coming out, and will continue to with Android, and same with WinMo, but Android has more 'hype,' now and I definitely foresee it taking a pretty big chunk of the mobile OS market. Then again, if WinMo continues to please consumers, there would be some interesting competition. My next phone at this point though: The Droid from Verizon, but I'll play around with some WinMo and do a comparison

The whole market dynamic will change when WinMo 7 comes out, I hope they get to it soon. Not only will WinMo 7 probably be pretty damn good, but with a new product comes new marketing opportunities, so if they market it right they could take a lead in the public eye.

but really. if MS hadn't let the platform stagnate (between WM5 and now) the OS wouldn't be in this position. i lay the blame at microsoft's feet: people like SPB and HTC have been doing all the innovation for the platform...

I love it when people criticize the Omnia without knowing what they're talking about. I own a verizon Omnia i910. Even on the stock rom back in the day without gps, the thing would fly with SPB Shell 2.0. Now people release new winmo 6.5.3 roms almost every 3 days, and everyone of them makes it feel like a new phone. And to those saying the limitation is the hardware....
Basically every HTC phone recently released, except the new leo, uses the same msm(forget the number) 528 mhz processor. Its a piece of outdated crap(omnia has a marvell pxa312 624mhz, slightly better). The only thing that HTC phones have over the omnia is the dedicated video chip and the increased amount of ram. Then again, i have 8gb integrated memory and a superior camera, so i dont complain. I can't wait till they finish porting Android to it. The problem with Winmo is that, I dont think its really suited towards phones. For example, lets say im playing a game that uses the touchscreen. Everytime you touch the screen, gwes.exe(Graphics, Windowing, and Events Subsystem) uses >50% of the cpu, slowing everything else down to a crawl. IMO, its fine, but its not really suitable for entertainment devices.

You answered this riddle yourself, it's the omnia, no dedicated video chip means it slows down. On my Touch Pro I can play any game and use all the touch functionality I want and it doesn't use excess cpu and slow down. Though you are right that the touchpro's chipset is long in the tooth.

I'm going to be all over an HD2 when it comes out, no matter who carries it and no matter how much it costs, I lust after this phone, lol!

Current: Sprint HTC HERO (Android 1.5)
Previous: Sprtin HTC Touch Pro (WinMo)
Previous: Sprint HTC Mogul (WinMo)

I read the article and it's garbage.. Considering I come from highly capable WinMo devices I'll keep it short.

Everyone who has put up with WinMo devices knows the shortcomings. I had a choice between the TP2 and the HERO and I chose Android. The Sprint HTC HERO is simply the single best device I've ever purchased. I went out on a limb giving up both WinMo and a hardware keyboard in one move but it was the best choice I've ever made. I still miss my slingbox but I'm sure as more devices roll out a solution will be released.

I will never own another WinMo phone again as long as Android is around.
