Buying a sound card

Thread Starter
Hey guys, I'm going to get a sound card for my PC but I have no idea what is good and what is a ripoff when it comes to sound cards.

What cards do you guys prefer or which cards give the best bang for your buck. I listen to a lot of music on my PC and also I would like one to bring my games to life :O

Note: I would like to spend less than $200 on it.

Awesome, thanks for the recommendations. Is it just me or is newegg.com a little bit broken at the moment?

Btw, don't forget to switch "modes" when listening to music. There are 3 modes...Music,Entertainment, and Gaming. Simply switch modes with the "mode switching" software by just clicking which mode you want. It most definitely DOES sound better on Entertainment mode when listening to music. You're gonna absolutely love this card. It will also speed up your games by as much as 5 to 10% because it frees up your cpu resources. Have fun =)

Nice, I'm getting exited =] I've never had a sound card on any of my PC's before and I can't wait to finally hear the difference.

Really? The X-Fi supports EAX 5.0 HD sound extensions which means that you'll hear sounds in your game that your onboard audio simply isn't capable of decoding. It really adds to the realism of gaming.

I just ordered mine, haven't heard it yet, but I'm sure it's awesome. I've read the reviews and heard the members talking about it and I'm thinking it was a great choice.

Agree with scc. I love this card going from my Audigy 2 zs to x-fi. You'll absolutely love going from no sound card to this!
