Windows update killed my rig

Thread Starter
I fresh installed windows saturday night. nothing unusual...rig ran fine for 24hrs after tweaking it around a bit. running @ 4.5, running prime large fft's and memtest side by side with no errors for hours and hours.
So i'm sitting here late last night and the thought hits me..."hey, I never updated windows".
So i hit windows update site and run it thru. everything is normal except it doesn't ask me to validate my copy. It just loads 33 updates and installs them. Reboot...fine no problems...surfing a few minutes later and the update icon is in the taskbar....hmmmmm? Ok...click it and it is loading 1 update and installs it. Prompted to reboot again.

"CLICK"(of death, little did I know).....
reboots thru post....as soon as it switches from booting hardware to software...thats as far as it gets. A continous reboot loop. No matter how I try to boot. Safe mode...nothing.
Any ideas before i reformat tonight after work?
TIA...

totally not related to your problem, but my rig got stuck in a total reboot. I did updates, then i was stuck in memtest when my rig started up (who woulda guessed DFI had memtest in the bios???) Id say do a system restore (if you can) or go with the reformat idear.

Causation is not neccessarily correlation. Just because you started expirencing the problems after windows update, doesn't mean they are directly connected. If you downloaded some of the updates and the the files were corrupted, it is possible for it cause this problem. It is very unlikely though. I would try Reseting all of my OC settings to stock. I would then try to reboot and see if the problem still occurs. If it doesn't then it has nothing to do with windows update. For the future, I would always suggest keeping your machine at stock settings while your installing windows, and downloading all of the updates from windows, and the rest of your core drivers. That way there is no chance of data corruption on the critical files. Try these things and report back here.

Reset everthing to default speeds and still no go. Guess the damage is done.
Thanks for the replies.
