Whats am I doing wrong

I have a ASUS A8N-SLi Deluxe, 3700 San Diego, 1gb Crucial Ballistix, Leadtek 7800GT and Hitachi Sata 2 HD.

The CPU is running at 2.4 (220fsb x 11/HTT x5), Ram at 400 (set on auto @2.5-3-3-8, although it can run 2-2-2-7), Graphics card is bog standard at 400/1000.

I have XP Pro installed (all up to date), Nvidia 6.7 mobo drivers and 81.95 Forceware drivers installed.

I also have no problems with heat or power. Everything appears to be fine until I try benchmarking.

Aquamark score of 58814 (GFX-8274/CPU-10164) and 3Dmark05 score of 4521.

WHERE AM I GOING WRONG????

Just to let you know a little more. With my old 3200 Winchester and 6600GT I was only scoring 1500 in 3Dmark05. Since then I have upgraded the processor and graphics (as above) and also had my RAM replaced under warranty (all in the last month). The motherboard is the only thing I haven't changed.

Just curious is the system Prime stable,, and have you run any Super PI times,,, also do you have a 3dmark03 score to compare to,,, 3dmark05 is a little more picky in terms of your components,,,

It seems like in terms of stability your HTT multi is a little high at 5X,,, its generally recomended to keep your rate under or near 1000,,, so you have 220 X 5 which is 1100,,, not terrible but might not run stable might want to drop it down to 4x,,,

have you run any sandra scores also for Floating Arithmetic or Memory speeds,,

I would suspect the htt multi of 5x too. I tried a modest OC of the htt with a htt of 260 and a multi of 4x which brought it to 1040 and it was not prime stable. as soon as I put the multi back to 3x my rig was stable once more.

if your system isn't stable it could be throwing off your benchmarking

also, if your RAM will run at those tighter timings I would manually set them to do that. just make sure they are stable at those tighter timings by running memtest.

Try to downclock your system(defute cpu, gpu, amd memory) and try to run 3dmark05 score again, you should be getting 6000+ on 3dmark05 score...

I would adjust the HTT down to 3 also. Also a 60k score in AQ seems a tad low. Maybe not, but I would check to see if you have multiple video card drivers installed, or even on your computer. With my old rig I accidentally had more than one instance of drivers and it took my score to 50K, then I used driver cleaner pro, then installed the newest drivers again and the score went to 68K

Good luck.

Thanks for the replies.

I've started going through them as a process of elimination. I've still to download Sandra and will do that tomorrow.

Tonight I started by checking there were no probs with drivers. They were fine. I did just do a complete fresh install of everything when I fitted the Hitachi drive and graphics card a couple of days ago.

I then lowered the HTT to 3 as you all suggested and tightened my ram timings. My 3DMark05 score went from 4521 to 4511 so not much difference there.

I then run 3DMark05 again with the tighter ram timings but HTT set to auto and FSB back down to 200. This time I got 4568. Only this time I clicked on system details in 3Dmark and it says "VGA memory clock 1.0ghz and VGA core clock 8.9mhz". Surely thats not right.

Edit: just removed and reinstalled 3DMark05, ran it and the system details show up at VGA core clock 438mhz. After I run the benchmark it changes to 8.9mhz. Is this correct??

Also installed 3Dmark03 and scored 11529. Not sure if thats good or bad.
