X48 - what CPU? - Page 3

Depends on what mobos are available in the UK. Some things tend to be hard to find sometimes, and much more expensive than US prices. I've heard the Gigabyte X58 boards are decent, (and cheap!) but I haven't actually had to play with one.

X48 motherboards tuned for quad core cpus. it can overclock your quad cure cpu with ease. i'm using gigabyte x48-dq6 motherboard and q9300 cpu. lol didn't even need to increase vcore to get it working at 3Ghz (stock speed is 2.5Ghz)

if you don't have much cash to spend, you can buy a q9300 as i did. it outperforms a q6600,consumes less power, generates less heat... these are the pros. when it comes the cons, q9300s have lower multiplier. so its likely that you won't see anything above 3.5Ghz even if you watercool it.

but if money is no concern to you, then i'd say go buy q9550. it kicks ass all other cpus for the price you have paid for it. yeah sure, i7 still better but costs $$$ more.

and don't buy any p55 motherboard or i5 cpu. you'd just waste money on a useless platform. you won't get any decent graphics performance (assuming you want to SLI or crossfire with newer GPUs) with these crippled PCI Express slots of p55. either get x48 which will hold you for a while until i7s get cheaper.

I heard the new P7P Deluxe from Asus is something. Might be wrong though. But some sources told me that it has some pretty mighty OC capabilties and triple SLI on some models. No clue how it performs though only know that its 200-400$... Thought I'd give my in on it.

You should go p55 because x8/x8 will not bottleneck 5770s at all. The biggest bottleneck is probably the 128 bit bus they have on them in the first place.

I'd prefer to go for the x16/x16 just encase in the future I do change GPU's.

I like full power for each gpu anyways and I've been researching the X58 and quite happy on buying this product ;o

Thanks for the help though

OMG ERROR10 IS BACK!

And Dpak, do not get the Akasa Nero CPU cooler. It will not be very good at all. It's not an enthusiast cooler.

If you're on a budget then this CPU cooler is what I'd recommend.

Thanks for the help meticadpa, I know I've noticed that the akasa won't be that good enough for me. I just made a thread talking about the coolers, I've learnt quite a bit so I'm happy.

I'm going for the Megahalems with two sunon denki fans.
