help with fx-55

Thread Starter
alright guys, i checked the roadmap, and the earliest date in there is 2004 sometime. my friend built a rig with one of the orignial fx55 when it first debuted from tiger direct. anyone know what this bad boy is capable of? he checked his system under control panel, and it didnt say what processor it was, just something crazy like "test module" or something..it was off the wall...i dont remember, long night..anyways. any one have any ideas? he purchased it oem, manufacturers didnt offer it on the market at the time. he also got this in roughly mid 03. thanks for the help~~:withstupi

edit: i told him to get cpu-z and see what that says...

negative on that mid '03 part.
And i quote from the almighty god named GOOGLE:

the fx-55 was released LATE '04. in any event, the world record for an FX-55 is 4 GHz on ln2/cascade. i hear of some people getting them to slightly over 3 GHz on air....but since i'm a poor white boy, i just don't know. all i can do is read about them.

It sounds like he got himself a Clawhammer (0.13 micron) FX-55 but those chips still had a bit of headroom in them. A good goal for your friend would be 2.8 GHz, the silicon used in teh FX is better than the regular Athlon64s and the usually clock higher.

Yeah, it's a Clawhammer. 2.8 GHz on air is basically as far as you'll go on air, though. The older 130 nm manufacturing process was used to make these, so they won't OC as well as the newer San Diego's made from 90 nm manufacturing process, but you can squeeze a little bit out of it.

alright, went over to his house last night for a christmas cookie/gathering thing, and we downloaded cpu-z..turns out he has an fx51...sledgehammer 130micron. we were all wrong!! he said he had a 55, but i think he was lost. anyways, anyone have this oc'd pretty good on massive air? he has a hsf the size of texas, and under load, it only gets up to 43 now..so, where should we start?? his bios sucks, he has an sk8n...and it is hard to do anyhting with that bios.
