Vid Card Options for the A8R-MVP

I am looking at an upgrade to the A8R-MVP with an AMD 64 X2 4200. However the two choices of cards used AnandTech ( X1800XT & 7800GTX ) are both very pricy. What other options are available to get the best bang for the buck.

X800CF or X850CF, both are under $300 I believe and both allow you to use CrossFire. Any X800 or X850 series card (not X850PRO, that is horrible bang for buck) will do CrossFire as long as 1 of the 2 cards is the CF version.

I have googled for the best price online for X850. The best I have found in Canada for the Sapphire ATI Radeon X850 Crossfire is $399.52. The Sapphire ATI Radeon X1800XL is $438 (Crossfire). Is the X1800XL worth the extra $40 or is there a better place to buy the X850

Hey there.

I also have settled upon the purchase of an ASUS A8R-MVP with a 64 4000+ san diego with most likely a X1800XT using some TCCD I have.

My orignal and now fail safe is the X850XT crossfire edition, drop a X800GTO2 in later maybe.

If I was what they call a rationale man I would be going the nforce4 SLI and 7800GT.

I am looking forward to the purchase in Jan, I assume you are in the same position.
Hopefully my own choices will give you some aid.

cheers..and be happy not mad !

Hello and Merry Christmas. Yes It is my turn to work through Christmas this year. Then with the extra cash flow and 3 more months of snow, a system upgrade and some gaming will make the time past faster. Still a couple of weeks from purchasing, just window shopping for now. thanks
