and relabeled? if that were true I'm sure that someone would have found a way to unlock the extra pipes by now, much like the agp6800 vanilla. I know I would like to...
I'm pretty sure they are manufactured with only 20 rendering pipelines, and one less shader in a seperate process.

omg i love toying with my bfg 7800 gt oc
479/1140 stable
I mean, of course I can leave it at only a 70000 aquamark score but 80000 is much more appealing....
And for only 300, it beats the hell out of anything else for the money, cept maybe the gtx cuz they are gonna drop the price to 230 to the companies.

Both 7800GT and 7800GTX use the G70A2 core, same process, same number of transistors, exactly identicle, the GT just has a pixel quad (four pixel pipelines) and one vertex processor turned off internally. Some of the very early GTs could be unlocked to a GTX, but now it's all cut off internally so you can't. But even so, you can still open of Riva Tuner and look in the advanced menu and see the BIOS tweaks for the extra pixel quad and vertex processor, just turning them on does nothing.

I am using coolbits to overclock. I want to overclock because i bought these fans specifically for oc'ing.

This ony game that lags with this card is F.E.A.R... i cant run it on max, which i want to do. Other games id like to run Full AA and AF with good fps as well.

Unlocking the 4 pipes and vertex pipe on 7800GT ??? no way!! Ill try rivatuner just to see if it does the trick..

Bump...

Great Card

Pros: Great card, Runs all games nice and fast may get another for SLI. Got this running at 525/1.2 with 24 pipes almost faster then the GTX and $150 less...

Cons: No cons at all... More »

Other Thoughts: Need a good water cooling system to overclock to high speeds.

Asus A8N-Sli
Opteron 165 @ 2.8GHz

Did you find this review helpful?Sorry for not quoting but does the part with 24 pipelines ding a bell here? How is this dude doing it or is he just lying?

Yeah he's lying through his teeth or is just plain ignorent. It's understandable though, because when you use Riva Tuner to unlock the pipes, the software masks are there and you can turn them on or off, but it doesn't actually do anything because the extra pixel quad and vertex shader are masked on a hardware level inside the die.
