Sapphire 5970 fan rattle

Thread Starter
Is anyone else experiencing this annoying fan rattling issue? Seems to happen any time the fan speed is increased above 30-35%. Upon further inspection the fan appears to have a lot of vertical play so it must be moving up and down while spinning at higher RPMs.

you might have a faulty fan on it. you might want to call up sapphire and let them know about your problem and see if they can send you a replacement cooler or just the fan.

Someone else on OCN had the same problem with the Sapphire 5970. The defective fan rattle or clicks when in a normal ATX tower setup. There was no clicking or noise when the computer was placed on its side with motherboard parallel to the floor.

You should RMA the graphics card.

I just returned my Sapphire 5970 for that exact same problem less than an hour ago.

Ofcourse there is no other 5970's in stock, so I'll just use my 4870x2 which I find is still wicked

Count me in, not only does my fan rattle but when I received my card the box and all packing had been opened and there were fingerprints all over the card. Someone had been fondling my GPU!
I am going to contact Sapphire and see about an RMA cross ship.

Mine appeared to have been opened also. I didn't notice any finger prints though. Perhaps those of us with rattling problems are the victims of a saboteur. I got mine from the egg. Maybe some nvidia fanboy broke into the warehouse and was messing with the fans. Hehe.

I opened a support ticket with Sapphire regarding this rattling issue. I will report back on what they suggest/say. My guess would be an RMA, but who knows. With such limited stock I am somewhat afraid to choose the RMA option.

I noticed that the Sapphire HD 5970 was no longer on Newegg earlier this evening. It was not even listed any longer. I wonder why that is.

Looks like it's been deactivated: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102863

LOL I bought my Sapphire 5970OC in Canada,at a store in person.
It was also open and the CD cover was also torn.
I just think people pull them out of the box to see how big and heavy they are.
My card rocks 1000 core with ease so its a keeper, just not a Virgin when I got her that dirty, dirty girl.

When I got mine, both the seals on both sides were off the box and didn't seem sticky anymore, but it did not appear to be opened. When I opened it, it was the situation with the tight lip, where you kind of end up bending it a little to lift the cover. I don't have a built rig to test it for rattling, though. I will hopefully have it soon! I'll let you guys know how it goes. Hopefully I won't have to RMA.
