Thermaltake CL-P0114 Big Typhoon

Total cost: $56.55 USD

It might be a little loud, but putting that on an AMD Athlon 64 4000+ and OC'ing it to something, how's it lookin'? If I use the big typhoon and OC, any ideas on what's the max stable GHz I could achieve (not looking for exact, just approx)?

Thanks,
Jim
I don't think replacing the stock fan will improve your Overclock at all and I also don't think you should purchase a 4000. Get the 3700 and keep the stock fan on the Big Typhoon. That setup will bring you to the edge of what the San Diego core can achieve on air, so why spend more?

If you buy that thing, paint it first! lol That's ugly! Might look awesome if you painted it with some UV paint. I've always wanted to try that

Looking good guys

So now, if I were to get the Big Typhoon with that fan, which has about 130 CFM, this would be a much cheaper solution to watercooling, but is it worth it in the long run? I'm looking for an inexpensive solution, and from what I've seen, watercooling is around $200 give or take a few here and there.
This is less than $60 in total, am I am at an advantage by getting it over watercooling?
What are the disadvantages to aircooling to watercooling? (don't take into account the noise, it doesn't bother me).

Just to clear up some things, load temps on an air cooled system would be higher than one from a water cooled system correct? Major / Minor difference?

Thanks everyone
Jim

Here's a review showing the Big Typhoon against a $200 water cooling system. Although the Exos isn't the best water solution, you can see there isn't a large difference.

I have the Big Typhoon and the exact same fan. You probably already know that you need to splice the 2-pin connector to a 3pin-4molex connector to get it working. I really don't even notice the extra sound from the delta. I'm idling around 26-28c and with a full load I get around 40-42c.

I monitored my CPU temps by testing SuperPI on 32M, my idle temp is 32-33ºC and load is 39-40ºC. That's on stock. Looking good to OC yes?
