Big Typhoon

Thread Starter
Should I purchase a Big Typhoon to overclock my Socket 478 P4 or will my existing Thermaltake TT-7025A do the job?

EDIT: I noticed that the documentation that I have come across says "Intel P4 478 Prescott", does it matter that I have a Northwood or will it fit all Socket 478?

Yes, it will fit your northwood. Sorry for the delayed response...

You should be the one to determine in you need the BT, if your heatsink now is making cpu temps higher then 50-55*c, and you feel that your cpu can still go higher in voltage, then the BT will help, your temps should be quite a bit lower. But if your temps now are not that high, lower then 50*c, then your fine, and a new heatsink won't do any good for you.

Im not sure if this will help you make up your mind, but I just got the Big Typhoon about half an hour ago and even with totally uncured AS5, my P4 Prescott 3.0@3.375 is running 30c idle and 50c full load! This is about 15/30 degrees lower than my old Zalman heatsink respectively and I am shocked at how quiet and efficient it is, I would totally buy it, definitely worth the $50 it cost me.

Just a follow up: Thanks for the replies. With AS5 the BT is keeping me at 33C idle and around 40C load. Definitely worth it for me.

Yes that would fit your motherboard fine and cool that chip nicely. However remember to install the backplate due to the coolers weight.
