So how does it run in dual channel? Is there a setting or is it automatic to setup to dual channel.

Sorry long time I been away from PCs. lol

On that pic of the mobo you posted, see the colored DIMM slots? You have two blacks and two blues....so that means that the matching colors take the matched sticks of ram, therefor that runs them in dual channel, upping your bandwidth a lot. It's automatic as long as the ram sticks match each other.

Doh!! Got it. Sounds easy enough. Well let me get that ram

I wonder what I can use those 2 other 256mb ram sticks. Can I just use those in the other slots? Will it benefit anything if I keep them there on the mobo?

You can use them and you'll have 1.5 gigs of ram, but it wont be dual channel, plus, sometimes AMD's memory controller doesn't like more than a gig. You can give it a try

Buy the gig I showed ya and then see how that works and then throw in the 256 sticks and see how they work together.

I'm not convinced that this is a RAM issue. Is there some known problem with night vision mode in FarCry where adding RAM helps?

If the game runs just fine most of the time, but only slows down when you have night vision turned on, then the problem is clearly related to the night vision mode. I don't see why more RAM will help in that department, it's a graphics issue. My gut instinct would be to blame the graphics card, I would suspect it is not handling the extra transformations on the image to make it "night vision".

Frankly, I don't see a need for night vision mode. I'm playing the game now also, and am near the end. Never needed night vision once. So you could save yourself some cash by simply not using night vision!

Damn,.... I figure that the night vison would be expensive!!! lol.

No, but really I know that 512mb is ok, but 1 gig should be nice.

But I have yet to mess w/ patches or any host games. I tried the other night to go mulitplayer, and I did register w/ UBIsoft,, but when I enter my user ID/PW,... it never took me to the internet servers to play.

Oh well

I know back when I had my 6800gt(and x2 512 sticks of ram, not the x2 1024 sticks i have now), and one of my sticks of 512 was out for an RMA, FarCry was much choppier with half a gig then a full gig.

Oh yeah!

Shift, have you updated to the newest patch? Because there were a LOT of graphical issues before the patch. If I didn't patch mine, half the world would have a black floor....

If it takes a while to load a shader/graphic thinger, it's your ram. It's pulling it off the hard drive and loading it into your ram. That takes time. There wasn't really enough room in the first place so it has to make up its mind and put something back on the hard drive....things get ugly when you run out of ram.

Just get 2x512 valueram off newegg - like $70 or 80 shipped. You won't be OCing that motherboard, so just get up to 1.5gb and be happy...
