I'm trying to oc my new X1800XT I used ati tool and search for max core when it was at 650//700 I thought I would try AM3 and see how could I would score and I get 89k I was like *** I exit am3 and look at ati tool and it says 475/700why is it doing that anyone know what I should do max temp is about ~70 with stock cooler

It probably is doing that because it is getting too hot, so it is downclocking to help your temps..

It may have a feature like Intel's speed step and AMD's cool and quiet, where it would downclock itself to conserve power and heat. I believe the 7800GTX's do the same thing.

What version of Ati Tool are you using. The version you are using probably does not support the new chipset. I would suggest trying the latest version on www.guru3d.com

okay it really odd it downclocks immediately when you start any testing program even if temp is just 50c it dosen't even have time to start using it just downclocks even at 620 really odd and it allways goes to 475 first 496 and then next time you look it is at 475 what could cause this

Have you tried reinstaling/updateing your drives? Also, has it always done this?

Your graphics card doesn't run at 650/700 in 2D apps That's your 3D speed and I'm sure it's running at the correct speeds when gaming, but to check it, look in AtiTool while running the artifact screen. You're seeing those slower clocks because your card instantly switches when you're alt tabbing to your desktop.

I honestly don't have a clue about Aquamark. I've never ran that benchmark and have never paid any attention to it. I'd run a more updated benchmark and see if you score low. Have you tried 3DMark05?
Edit: After looking at his screenshot,it says he ran that with High Detail and 4X filtering. Are you comparing those same settings with other scores?
