how many Watts was it rated for?

Btw, how is your setup going with 5970 + 8800?

I'm interested in doing something similar.

It was a m12d-850 one of the highest rated JonnyGuru psu's ever. Atm I'm not doing the 8800 because the antec is only a 600w model, but I've run it with a 5870 before the new gpu and it works great when I'm playing the few physx enabled titles I have.

Good to know, I was thinking about getting a 250gtx or a 9800 but I might go for an 8800 or even a 8600 if the price is good (used of course). I'll be getting a 5970 in the coming months but for know I cheap physx card might be nice sidekick to my 5850 for the time being. (will get a 5970 instead of CFing my 5850 cause I don't want to crowd my case with a pair of them plus a physx and my soundcard. Yeah, I'm insane).

So, my favorites for now are Sapphire OC, ASUS and XFX Black Edition. But are the OC and Black Edition cards worth it? Are they just factory OCs or do they use better components? I know Sapphire OC is "unlocked" but can't we bypass the oc limit on any card? What about the Black Edition, whats that all about?

I can see we have owners of all of these in this club, so I would be most grateful if some of you guys could answer these questions for me and give me your opinions on which 5970 (except the "petunias") to get from the reliability point-of-view.

I'll tell you what, this HIS model may be a bit older than some but it has worked without flaw since day one. That's only been two weeks, but it's quiet when it should be, the fan ramps up perfectly to keep temps down. Considering the fact that I got it for a total of $500 it's been great.

I dunno, I have a bad feeling over HIS and me...
It has a nice bundle though. Do you have the one that comes with the EMR "shield-card-thing"?

But wait, reference designs are all made by Sapphire, no? They just ship that to HIS, ASUS and everyone else for them to bundle it and stick their brand on it, right?

Thats why I'm asking about these fancy versions (Sapphire's OC and XFX's Black Edition). Cause they might have some real/physical differences, no?
Yeah mine came with that "thingy" but I don't use it, as for the manufacturer I had no idea that Sapphire made all the boards.... yech if so.. I don't care for them all that much from a past problem.
