I also have a 650W Power supply (Corsair TX650), as long as the PSU is a quality PSU you're fine, I am with the X6 1055T @ 3.8Ghz and the HD5970 @ 850/1200 and the PSU can handle it fine.

About stock cooler, you should be fine, just be sure to put a manual speed fan above 50% to get some decent temps.

Thank you, but how i need to set voltages?
Is MSI Afterburner is good for overclocking?

I think most of the people here use MSI Afterburner, is the best tool for overclocking at least on ATI

PS: Not sure if your Thermaltake 650W is good quality? I don't know that psu brand.

I overclocloked HD 5970 to 850mhz core, it's stable, temps are fine, i added voltages, it's now 1.162V
But when i am trying to overclock memory to 1200 the system seems to be unstable(artefacts) but the temps was fine, what's wrong?
I already posted more info on another thread

You know, MSI AB and CCC are not very good "friends".

If I were you, I would start my PC, install Sapphire Redline overvolt tool, increase the voltage to 1.125v and then open CCC and apply to BOTH cores the 850/1200 settings (or even better create a game profile withthat settings in CCC).

MSI I would use in parallel ONLY for fan control, if I did not want to use CCC manual fan control of 60-75% (depending on your case).

In any case have in mind that MSI AB and CC do not cooperate always very well.

This is so true CCC and MSI Afterburner hate each other.

You have to test and run in CCC before applying the overclocks. 1.162 is the max you can use and I dont thing its needed for 850Mhz. 1.125 should be fine but that still depends on your specific card.

Regarding the memory freq. of the 5970, still it depends on the specific card and also in the timinings your Card memory has. Tight timings allow less overclock but still provide good performance results.

Try starting from 1.125 850/1100 and continue increasing the memory frequency (and voltage only if needed!) until you get what you want and your card can supply. If you come across lock-ups with the memory increase, then pump up just a little the voltage and try again.

Note: in redline you will see also memory voltage increase slider... I haven't tried using that and I am not sure that it works for the 5970 series. Still I would not use it (personal opinion)

CCC can help you on the overclock by pressing the test button of new clocks in the Overdrive section (vertical bars in full screen/esc to exit/check result pass fail).

Remember to have loaded the overvolt tool and APPLY 1.125v core voltage before any overclock attempt and also to apply same overclock in BOTH cores-not only one. (In MSI AB I could overclock only one core)

Special note.... ALL the time make sure that your card stays cool with the appropriate fan setting!!! (Use GPU-Z in background if needed) I managed yesterday to get 940/1250 with 1.1625 but stable I was only with 930/1250. Temperatures I had during these checks were (75% fan) 69C max cores, 82C max VRMs... I do not like any temps higher than that.
