Hello all, I'm the newest member of this awesome club! My 5970 arrived on Christmas Eve and I've just started playing around with this new card today. I'm currently running caseless until I have the time to mod my 300 to accomodate it, my goal is to have it completed by New Years.

I'll try to post some pics of my setup then! I'm still running at bone stock for now but that will also change in time!

Hey everybody,

Picked up a Diamond 5970 a few days before Christmas. I am having some problems however, it is nice that I found this thread, I thought i'd be all alone on this one.

First off, the fan speeds are non-adjustable in CCC. I recently found that MSI Afterburner can raise the fan speeds, but they do not stay which is strange. Also, sounds like a jet engine! Lol

Second off, at stock speeds, just running Furmark at 640x480 (no msaa, no fullscreen,) will freeze my card and lockup the whole computer requiring a hard reboot after just 55 seconds.

Same thing happens when I run Crysis or the Crysis Benchmark, I can get about a minute in and the video card will lock up, have to restart.

Last night, I tested out Furmark with the fan speeds at 100% and I got to about 250 seconds before lock up. I also managed to play Crysis (couldn't hear the game with the jet engine running at 100%, but that's ok heh) for a bit, but the game seemed to be artifacting like crazy, and generally ran very poorly.

I am really trying to narrow down whether my card is defective or not. It'd be a great help if you guys could let me know if any of this stuff is happening to you.

How far can you get in Furmark 640x480 (no msaa, no fullscreen) ?

Thanks,

-J

1:What drivers are you running?
2:Is there no fan control at all in ccc, or does it just not work?
3:Crysis does not play nice with this card, have you tried other games?
4id you set a fan profile in afterburner?

Make sure you click the little pad lock on the Overdrive overclocking section. Non of the options are adjustable until you click that pad lock icon and it changes to unlocked.
You may have done this, but just in case. It's easy to miss.

Well I cant tell you about Furmark but I play Crysis and the Crysis Benchmark just fine on the highest settings with X8AA. Also Try running stock clocks and get ATI Tool or just go into CCC and go into ATI Overdrive and under the memory and Core clocks there should be a button that says "Test Custom Clocks" click it. If it passes then you are probably ok but if not then I would start contacting Diamond about a RMA.

Also how much voltages do you guys have running threw your cards? I got mine stable at 900/1210 but my voltages are 1.1Core and 1.125 Memory. Is that high?

What software are you guys using to change the memory voltage? Didn't see the option in MSI Afterburner. Personally I have 1.11Core for a 950/1200 run stable but I don't run that clock 24/7 due to me not liking the VRM temps. WaterBlock and new Swiftech Drive coming after I get another $350 in my bank
