Virgin Builder, Any Concerns?

Thread Starter
First, I would like to thank everyone for taking the time to read my post. Hopefully you all can take a second to flash back and remember what it was like to do that first big build. As you can imagine, I'm a bit overwelmed, but having a blast!

So I've been socking away money for a year now and I've got about a 2k budget. I'm looking for a well rounded PC to do alot of different activities on.

Here are my build reasons:
1) For Gaming (CODMW2, AC2, Aion, Wow, ect)
2) For Work/School (photoshop, visual studio, matlab, labview, code compiling, some CAD)
3) For Media (re-encode non-blueray movies, rip music, home network with TVs)
4) For the fun/challenge of building a higher end computer
5) Because I spend 25% of my life behind a computer, why not make it a good system?

Here are my build priorities:
1) Performance/Speed
2) Stability/Reliability
3) Managable Noise (for work reasons)
4) "Somewhat" Efficient (cooler office temperature)
5) Has some wow factor (looks cool)

Here is a link to my build. Again, I am a bit of a newb, so I am probably missing something completely obvious to you guys. Any thoughts/suggestions/comments/concerns? Everything will be stock except a 3.6GHz OC on the 920.

http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?k...aw&output=html

Thanks again for any feedback, I don't want to make any costly mistakes!

Hi, Bryan.

There's a few revisions that I'd personally make to your build:

I'd get the HD5870 instead of the GTX 295, since it consumes way less power, and will only get better as time goes on, and natively supports DX 11. I'd get the Western Digital Caviar Black hard drive instead of the Green; it doesn't save much power anyway, its slower performance and increased price isn't really worth it, in my opinion.

If you were going to get a sound card, I'd get either an ASUS Xonar DX or the ASUS Xonar D1, the only difference between the two is that one is PCI, and the other is PCI-E x1.

Everything else I like...

However, I have one more suggestion: Overclock that i7 more! You should be able to hit 4GHz and beyond easily on that setup.

Good luck with your future build, and don't forget to post any questions, concerns, etc. here on OCN.

Oh, and you must post pics of your build when it's done.

Looks pretty good.

I would get the Noctua NH-D14 instead of you can get your hands on it. It is probably the best air cooler out right now. And a 5970/5870 of course

I would pick up the HAF 932, looks similar to the 690 but bigger!
Also the Antec 1200 is nice.

The GTX 295 is the fastest single card from last generation... it beats the HD4870X2. So HD4870 CrossFire is somehow going to beat the GTX 295?

I would personally go with the Antec 1200 because HAF 922/932 looks ugly. Yeah I would really try to get a 5870 too since its DX11 but I guess finding a place that sells it and in stock is a pain in the ass. Other then that good job!
