Thread Starter
Im buying ram for my rig in sig, but i was looking at the newegg reviews, and some people claim to have got TCC3 instead of TCCD.

Any other good ocing ram around $150?

OCZ platinum rev. 2 used TCC5 IC's from June - August 2005 due to a shortage of TCCD IC's. Starting again in Aug. They goet more TCCD and have been putting TCCD IC's in since.

I ordered my platinum rev. 2 from newegg about a month, month and a half ago and got TCCD.

The way you tell is if the sticker has no version or ver. 1.0 it's TCCD. if it has ver. 1.1 then it's TCC5.

I called OCZ when I was looking at getting mine and talked to the tech guy who told me the scoop.

Anywho, if you get platinum rev. 2 now you should get TCCD. ohterwise if you don't want to risk it and are willing to give g-skill a try newegg has some g-skill TCCD RAM for about 150.

Any idea if you can exchange tcc5 ones for tccd? Worth a shot?

I suspose it's worth a shot. if you just got it recently you can try to RMA it to where ever you bought it... but I don't think OCZ just wants to replace it. OCZ's stance will probably be along the lines of TCC5 and TCCD are basically the same and TCC5 are the same IC... just binned differently. TCCD is only better in terms of overclocking... which if you buy DDR400, it's only meant to run at DDR400... if you OC it (and OCZ knows most people will) then each set is different and there is no guarantee. Since OCZ doesn't explicity adversise that they use TCCD in platinum rev. 2 they are under no obligation to give you DIMMS that use TCCD IC's.

I guess that's just what my take on it would be... trying to be impartial and all. I actually talked to OCZ before I bought mine and they said that they did not guarantee I get TCCD, and downplayed the difference. Which is probably a smart move on their part (business wise) It's worth a try, but I'm not too sure I'd hold my breath.

sorry if this isn't particularly good news.
