Prove me wrong. it would save me buing a whole new system, which i cant afford anyways

Edit: Lets say i get 4bg of G-skill Ripjaws. 1600mhz. My mobo is not on their compatability list. And ur saying they will work fine?
the OLD ddr3 memory that came out when the 790i came out had voltages around 2.1 and only speeds of 1333Mhz.

Since then they have made vast improvements they now have ddr3 memory at voltages of 1.6v at speeds of 2000Mhz+.

If you get any ddr3 memory that is on the market right now, it will have TONS of voltage headroom on your 790i board since it's not limited to the 1.65v that the i7's are limited to due to the on-die memory controller(i wouldn't go over 1.9v though... just to be safe).

im pretty sure u wont have a problem with finding working memory with boards nowadays. its not like motherboards are like cameras where like sony requires memory stick only kind of deal.

as long as u get ddr3. and speeds compatible. should be good

what?

oh theres different HEATSPREADERS for ripjaws.

i thought they represented different CAS latencies but I was wrong after researching this on newegg.

i think the colors are random(there's red, blue and black ripjaw heatspreaders)

that 2x2gb 1600mhz ram would be fine with your system but it might be underclocked when you install it and you might have to OC the cpu, change the ram ratio and/or bump the northbridge voltages.

I was good until, read 'may be underclocked' (. Ill keep the ram ratios unlinked.

so the ram is trying to be 'safe'. What i mean is, it will be okay to bring the timings etc back up to advertised, afterwards. Theroretically speaking of course

if you keep your cpu at 3Ghz then:

3000Mhz/4 = 750x2=1500mhz ram speed IF the ram ratio os set to 1:2(or is it 2:1? I'm at work right now)

I'm pretty sure that's correct, at least that's how it works on my 780i.

But idk if the 790i northbridge can handle 1500Mhz ram speed..... i might have to go look that one up.
