S.t.a.l.k.e.r - Page 2

Exactly. I mean, when it was developed it had a lot of features that were entirely new during their time.

1) Active day/night cycle. This means that as you play the game the time actually changes.
2) Unscripted AI. This means that enemies have basic needs and fulfill them as you play the game. They need to eat, sleep, and they may fight with other enemies. All this means that the world is as natural as possible. Enemies arent just placed around to fight you, but they go about their lives and are placed (as I udnerstand it) randomly in the zone.
3) Trading. This is somethign new to to FPS and the idea that there are other people like your character out there is cool. Need a more powerful gun, perhaps you can trade with another stalker in the area.

However, for a downside, the graphics already look dated and DX9 compatibility is a requirement, not a feature anymore. Similarly, it has some cool physics features (like being able to shoot through wood and such) but these are features that are pretty much in all games now and days. Now, 2 years ago...this would be cutting edge.

The demos on stalker-game.com all look like a modified Q3 engine and that kinda sucks. However, its a proprietary engine called Xray, so its not Q3. Still, the graphics are nothing to write home about.

I dunno, game play looks good but I am a graphic person too. So I dont know if I will buy this game or just borrow it from a friend. *shrug* thats to say if it even comes out...

I think this is based on an old Russian Sci-fi film.
