Thread Starter
im on a Intel p4 Prescoott 3.0ghz 800mhz
Stock hsf

Right now my idle temp is 55 .. on full load it goes up to 72.. i have take off the hsf and cleaned the thermal paste and appleid the as5 and blew out the dust in the fan .. my temps dropped from like 80c idle to 55.. but i still think this is to high is this because my stock hsf is crap or something wrong with my comp..

Thanks alot

I would say those temps are way to high.

Is your system homebuilt, or from a company? The brown-box companies like to let them run hot, in favor of less fan noise.

Yeah, something is wierd there. Your load temps should be about 55 for that processer. Are you sure it's seated correctly?

I personally think those temps are fine for the processor you have. It will not last as long as a better cooled cpu but most likely you will need to upgrade the cpu before it will actually die. Just make sure it is not hyperthrottoling and also what is your computer ambient temp. I had a problem with temps and it turned out to be the sensor as my ambient temps inside the computer are cool as hell.

You should keep your temps under 65c max load, after 67c the cpu will start throtting down, better cooling would help, typhoon is the best.

Is air flow out/in the case any good? Good air flow is (nearly) just as important as good heatsink...those temps sound a little high for even stock cooling. The 9500 should do it good, but still - air flow is essential. Hook up some (more powerful) rear exhaust fans.

Yes air flow means alot. mine is a flat case, I keep the top off of it.
