The dual core is better, especially if you do multitasking and the like. You will bairly notice a diffrence on single, non multithreaded apps like games so I say go dual.

But games are coming to use dual core soon.
So even with gaming dual core would be better.

Id say the amd.
But I dont know a lot about Intel or how good they compare.

It being a 4800 means that its supposed to be a lot better than the intel.
With the 6:9 ratio its about 400mhz better.

cnet did a test on dual cores a few weeks ago (dont have the link, sorry, its around here try looking it up) but in most test the 3800+ X@ outperformed all but the EE intel and the one right below that, the 4800 was by far the best dual core out there.

18 Day Stress Test by "www.tomshardware.com"Athlon 64 X2 4800+ Vs. Pentium 840 EE.

In their video of this test, finally they said for single applications amd is faster(& not so power hungry as intel), but when it comes to multiple applications intel is faster. But finally AMD is more efficient.
Thats what they said...

I dont really have a suggestion, just want to hop in and state that I dont think they call it the fx-53 anymore.....do they?

I thought they limited the fx's to 55 and 57?
